“Life Magnified,” a series of :20 documentary segments about inspiring individuals, won Best PSA Campaign at the PromaxBDA North America Awards in New York last night.  The campaign was produced by Human Interest Films Inc. for A&E Networks Brand Partnerships and 45th & Dean.  The stories, shot all over the U.S., are shown as :20 second “bumpers” during the broadcast of LivePD, the network’s most popular show.

HI TEAMS UP WITH GOOGLE ON SOCIAL MEDIA SPOTS FOR HISTORY

This fall, Human Interest Films teams up with tech giant Google for a series of four branded social media and broadcast spots for HISTORY, detailing the fascinating story behind the modern day “digital assistant.”  From the earliest days of AI, voice synthesis and voice recognition, “History of the Digital Assistant” traces five decades of innovation that ultimately converged in groundbreaking products like Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant.

 


HI JOINS NATIONWIDE “MARCH FOR OUR LIVES” COVERAGE

Human Interest Films joined forces this weekend with New York-based ADDigital and gun control nonprofit “Everytown for Gun Safety” to cover the  “March for Our Lives” demonstrations held nationwide on March 24.  HI President Mike DeWitt led a team covering the march and rally in downtown Las Vegas, just a few blocks away from the site of the Route 91 Festival mass shooting which took place less than 6 months earlier.

 



HI ALUMNI ARE KILLING IT ON THE OSCARS SHORTLIST – AGAIN!

Once again, Human Interest Films’ colleagues and friends are well-represented on this  year’s short list for the Best Documentary Oscar.  Bravo to our colleagues Caroline Waterlow and Tamara Rosenberg for their outstanding work on the documentary series O.J.: Made in America which is racking up tons of well-deserved awards.  We are also thrilled for our mentor and spiritual guru Molly Thompson, executive producer of Life, Animated and for Owen Suskind and his dad Ron, the subjects of Life, Animated, whom we first got to know several years ago when we documented their story for Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Concert for Autism Education.   Earlier this year, colleagues Maritte Go and Brian Golden Davis crushed it at Sundance and Slamdance.  Congratulations all around!  Couldn’t be prouder of our talented team!

UPDATE: BRAVO to HI alumna Caroline Waterlow who took home an Oscar tonight for producing Best Feature Documentary winner O.J.: Made in America.  Wow!!!!

DEWITT TO PRODUCE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC DOCU SERIES

HI Executive Producer Mike DeWitt will begin production this week on a six-part documentary series about sex for the National Geographic Channel.  The series, announced by National Geographic at the TCA in January, will be an “state of the union” look at sex and sexuality since the Sexual Revolution of the 1960s and 80s.  DeWitt will serve as Supervising Producer on the docu series, which will be feature interviews with leading academics, writers, cultural commentators and celebrities.  The series will air globally on National Geographic Channel in the fall of 2016 — in 171 countries and 45 languages.

HUMAN INTEREST SHINES AGAIN AT “NIGHT OF TOO MANY STARS”

This year’s star-studded “Night of Too Many Stars” on Comedy Central once again featured powerful films from the Human Interest Films team.  The five films, introduced by host Jon Stewart told the stories of high quality programs around the country that are making an extraordinary difference in the lives of autistic children and their families.  To date, “Night of Too Many Stars” has raised over $20 million for autism education programs.  This year’s broadcast, the second one that we have contributed to, featured a spectacular roster of A-list talent including Stewart, Sarah Silverman,  Larry David, Jon Bon Jovi, Susan Sarandon, John Oliver, Chris Rock, Amy Schumer and many more!

DEWITT HELMS “WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?” WITH SEAN HAYES

Human Interest Films’ Mike DeWitt traveled to Ireland in December to direct an upcoming episode of TLC’s Emmy-nominated series Who Do You Think You Are?  The episode, featuring the Emmy winner Sean Hayes, explores a dark side of the comic actor’s family roots in early 20th century Ireland.  DeWitt traveled with Hayes, his husband Scott Icenogle, and a crew from Shed Media to document Hayes’ journey into his past.  WDYTYA, executive produced by Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky is now in it’s sixth season.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE OAKLAND MAYOR’S RACE

We were delighted when the Oakland mayoral candidate Libby Schaaf turned to us earlier this year to help her tell her story.  In a field of 15 candidates running to run one of the country’s biggest cities, the dynamic and passionate city council member and Oakland native needed a way to stand out however she could.  Building on her campaign tagline “Made in Oakland,” our team quickly crafted this short film, distributed via email blast, meant to give voters and opportunity to get to know Libby and her love for her native city.  Schaaf ultimately emerged from the pack to claim a decisive victory in the November election.  We wish mayor-elect Schaaf well as she begins her new job in January!
