DeWitt discusses the business of nonprofit filmmaking at USC

HI founder Mike DeWitt discussed the business of making nonprofit media with students at the USC School of Cinematic Arts earlier this month. Attendees at the Spielberg Building lecture hall included film students, social work students and participants, via Zoom, as far away as Tokyo! “There is a huge market for nonprofit filmmaking,” DeWitt explained. “And while it is, by definition, not the most profitable area of the motion picture business, producing nonprofit films is a great way to make some money, build your reel, make connections and make a big difference in the world. Over more than a decade, the films produced by Human Interest Films have raised literally tens of millions of dollars that have had a direct effect on improving people’s lives. It’s a win-win all around.” The talk at USC was organized by USC’s Media Institute for Social Change.
